Shenshan Gr
Type Locality and Naming
West-central Jiangxi. The Shenshan Group was named by the Jiangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1965 (Guidebook of 1 200 000 Scale Geological Map of Xinyu Sheet). The typical section is situated in Baisha and Shenshan in Xinyu County, Jiangxi Province.

Lithology and Thickness
Lower part of this group is dominated by black gray carbonaceous phyllite and silty phyllite, intercalated with black phyllitic sandstone and grayish green metamorphic schistose sandstone. Upper part consists of greenish gray sericite sandy phyllite, sericite phyllite and phyllitic siltstone, intercalated with minor carbonaceous sericite phyllite, in addition with meta-basalt and meta-spilite in upper part. In Pingxiang area, there is the occurrence of abundant tuffite. The thickness is about 3480 m.
